A Christian Woman’s Journey in Exercise
It’s time for change!
Your body is a temple and exercise should be worship to our Father.
I didn’t notice it at first. Life was busy; marriage, motherhood, and responsibilities. I was pouring into everyone else, making sure my family was cared for, my home was in order, and my to-do list was tackled. But somewhere along the way, I stopped seeing myself. One day, I stood in front of my mirror, trying to squeeze into an outfit that used to fit perfectly. It wasn’t just about the clothes, it was about how I felt. I didn’t feel strong. I didn’t feel healthy. I wasn’t taking care of the body God had given me, and honestly? I was convicted.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. But I wasn’t treating mine that way. I had gotten comfortable, and in doing so, I was neglecting something that mattered, not just for my health, but for my ability to serve and live fully.
So, I decided it was time for a change.
Faith, Fitness, and Finding Myself Again
Starting was hard. I made excuses, I was too busy, too tired, too overwhelmed. But the truth? I just hadn’t made it a priority. When I finally did, everything started to shift.
With every walk, every workout, every intentional movement, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time: clarity. I was more confident, more energized, more present. It wasn’t just about losing weight or fitting into my clothes again. It was about stewarding my body well, showing up for my life with strength and purpose.
I realized that fitness wasn’t separate from faith; it was part of it.
Wives, Don’t Lose Yourselves
Marriage is beautiful, but let’s be honest, it’s easy to slip into routines where we focus so much on our families that we forget ourselves. We love our husbands, we nurture our children, we pour into our homes, but in the midst of it all, we cannot forget to take care of ourselves.
We need to be strong, not just emotionally and spiritually, but physically too. Because when we feel good in our bodies, we show up differently in every area of life. We can’t serve well when we’re exhausted, unhealthy, and burned out. God calls us to love others, but He also calls us to care for ourselves.
Movement as Worship
One of the biggest shifts in my journey was seeing exercise as worship, not as punishment. When I went for walks, I prayed. When I stretched, I reflected. When I worked out, I played worship music and reminded myself that moving my body was glorifying God. Romans 12:1 calls us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. That means caring for them, honoring them, and seeing wellness as an act of faith.
Encouragement for Your Journey
If you’ve been feeling stuck, uninspired, or overwhelmed, I want to remind you: you are worth taking care of. Your health matters. Your body matters.
Start small. Walk, stretch, dance, move, whatever feels good. Invite God into the process.
